Mustapha's Place

Zanzibar, Bwejuu, Tanzania, East Africa, budget hotel

Restaurant and bar

The food at Mustapha's has long been one of its main attractions. Long-time chef Babu Ali is a master of the Swahili buffet, where a group of guests can share a series of delicious Zanzibari dishes, from octopus stew to plantains in coconut milk to barbecued whole fish in spices, as well as spinach and fresh chapati. Mustapha's is also famous for excellent Swahili seafood, using using fresh calamari, crab, king prawns and even lobster for special occasions, as well as wholesome vegetarian dishes using the best fresh produce and island spices.

Bar

Meanwhile, at the bar, you can try our signature Coco Loco cocktail, which is a fresh coconut plucked from one of the nearby tree topped up with a heady mix of spirits - ideal for a tropical party, or you can try local beers such as Kilimanjaro and Safari. Creamy African spirit Amarula is the perfect nightcap or try local spirit Konyagi with tonic for a sample of what the locals drink. Dawa is a tasty Zanzibari cocktail made from Konyagi, lime and honey - if you're lucky it will even be made with honey from Mustapha's own bees.

Although our food and drinks are delicious, we also aim to keep them affordable, so whether you are on a budget or wanting to splash out for a special occasion such as a honeymoon or birthday, then there is something to suit you.
